Amandeep Singh Sarna is the Regional Director IT for Starwood Hotels & Resorts worldwide, and part of the company’s Executive leadership. Responsible for the strategic business technology vision of the company, he spearheads IT decisions, more specifically Digital Transformation efforts to help the company improve client service levels, maximise capital expense ROI and control costs.
Amandeep along with his regional team of over 200 across 6 countries are tasked to optimise existing IT assets and use new-age methodologies like Design Thinking to arrive at mesh of new business outcomes. Using new- age methodologies has helped Amandeep lead change both internally and externally and create multiple industry-firsts.
One of Amandeep’s key initiative has been to launch the Starwood mobile app to better manage guest experience across the entire lifecycle spanning booking, keyless access to rooms and points redemption. In order to champion this project as part of the broader digital transformation, Amandeep has helped the company use an API-based, Microservices approach and use latest platforms to rebuild guest-facing interfaces while still using legacy back-end systems. This project has been designed in a way to ensure the comfort and ease-of-use by both, internal customers and guests.
Under his leadership, he is proactively using Big Data analytics tools to help both Marketing and Sales leaders unlock the untapped customer insights from over 1 billion data points collected from over millions of guests every year. Most importantly, he has laid heavy onus on security of the systems and encouraged use of multiple third-party tests in order to guarantee customer privacy and cybersecurity. Stored centrally, this database is accessible to limited people internally and uses highest level of encryption and compliance checks.
Amandeep is also involved in designing the next generation experience for the guests using latest technologies and concepts like Virtual Reality and Internet Of Things. While the former is being used to pilot virtual experiences to offer customers an immersive experience of hotels remotely, the latter is being used to personalise the guest experience to the next level by utilising existing hotel infrastructure.
He has also played a key role in evolving the nature of strategic outsourcing relationship with Accenture that houses over 1000 dedicated workers to support Starwood globally.
Prior to his current stint at Starwood, Amandeep has held leadership roles at companies like ITC, Dawnay Day, Interstate Hotels and The Bright Star Group where he won multiple awards for innovative technology implementations and industry-firsts. During this time, he achieved excellence for projects spanning one of regions’ first private cloud implementation to host mission critical apps, using Public Cloud delivered apps to modernise workforce apps and launching India’s first fully functional e-commerce hospitality website.
Amandeep graduated from University of Delhi and holds a Master’s degree in Computer Applications.
